Children's dreams - children's toys through the ages

Imechapishwa: 24.07.2016

Yesterday we had our theme day 'Children's Toys Through the Ages'.

Even at breakfast, we talked about toys that were around about 100 years ago. We compared things that came to mind with our current toys.

We realized that toys from the past were equipped without a lot of technology and gimmicks.

First, we thought of the 'slingshot', which consists of only a 'Y' branch, a leather strap and piece, and a Mason jar rubber band.

In general, simpler objects were used to play in the past. Sticks and stones were simply found everywhere. Carving figures was also very popular, the children back then took care of meaningful activities on their own.

Dolls were mostly made of fabric with simple clothing (if any). Jumping jacks were also part of daily play.

Being outside was part of everyday life at that time. Playing together with few possessions brought satisfaction and balance.

When we visited the 'Dreams of Children' exhibition in Kommern, we noticed other things as well.

Board games and card games have existed in the past. We still like to play such games today. The variety has changed until today, there is now much more choice and variations.

We were also impressed by the (further) development of video game consoles. From simple Gameboys to Nintendos to DS's, everything was represented.

Our conclusion for the day:

In the past, there were fewer and simpler toys than today.
