After 24 hours, we finally landed in Sri Lanka and we were immediately impressed by the landscape.🌎 As we stepped off the plane, the climate hit us right in the face. 30 humid degrees with cloudy skies.☁️
There was a brief moment of nervousness during the visa check, which we had to do right after getting off the plane. But after a short "looking sympathetic" at the security guy, we were finally allowed to get our luggage. 😄
The next highlight was when we entered the arrival hall, where at least 50 Sri Lankans were standing with different name tags, waving their arms around. After a short wait and search, we finally spotted our travel group.👀
The drive to the hotel was a bit more difficult, as a thunderstorm suddenly struck within minutes and flooded the streets with pouring rain. 🌊 The splashing water from our car would repeatedly drench the motorbike riders who rode closely by. Hundreds of tuk-tuks weaved through the streets, temporarily protecting themselves from the wetness with garbage bags. ⛈
Finally, we arrived at our hotel, Ozo in Colombo, which seemed very well-equipped for an overnight stay. We wanted to treat ourselves to one or two delicious beers at the rooftop bar on the 13th floor to end the day. 🍺
The emphasis is on "wanted" because the Independence Day (which happened to be today 🤷🏻♀️) ruined our plans with its alcohol ban. So we settled for a watermelon juice. 🍉
It is now 8:30 PM and time for some restful sleep. 🤫😴
