Finally, we had the opportunity to experience an Almabtrieb. We have been in the mountains so many times, but never during the Almabtrieb season.
A beautiful mountain bike route offered itself from Kastelruth to Völs. So we didn't linger too long over breakfast to have enough time for our bike tour. The path was quickly found and was wonderful to ride on, through meadows, forest areas, and villages... always downhill... all the way to Völs. After 45 minutes, we arrived at 11:00 at the scene. The waiting time until the arrival of the cattle was entertaining. Alphorns and a music band provided good entertainment. At 12:15, it finally happened, the cowbells rang and the beautifully decorated cows arrived.
Followed by equally decorated locals and the music band, we all went to the festival site together. The road was now covered with fresh cow dung... watch your step!
At the festival site, there was plenty to drink and eat and of course music. It was a great spectacle with lots of fun and we enjoyed it a lot.
But we didn't stay long, as we still had to bike back to Völs... this time uphill! 560 meters of elevation... huffing and puffing.
We really accomplished a lot today and more than deserved the sauna and dinner.
