After a completely run-down rainy day, we decided to leave the friendly Casa do Sardão in Carreco. And we were lucky! Our new campsite in Gaya, near Porto, welcomed us with sunshine. We quickly got the bikes down, changed and headed to Porto.
There is no better way to approach this colorful city than from the opposite bank of the river ... in the afternoon sunshine. The city is so vibrant and inviting - we immediately felt at home and let everything sink in with a glass of wine. Many facades are tiled, but the train station surpasses everything. You can hardly believe that you are standing in a train station hall... I didn't think a city could impress me like this again. We have seen so many beautiful cities. In Ossi fashion, we joined the line of people at the end and voila ... there was a Fado concert; it's part of Porto, like the blues is to New Orleans (the latter, however, gets into my blood more ;-). Porto looks beautiful at night too and you can eat (and drink) well. We arrived at our Vitolino sometime before midnight and happily fell into bed. If the sun shines again tomorrow, we will cycle to Porto again! The sun was shining, but in the morning Porto is still a bit reserved, tired from the previous night and then the rain came... We haven't been this wet before. Even the 1,000 cats on the campsite turned pale.
Just throwing a practical question out there: How do you get all your belongings dry in a van? Well ... actually you don't, unless the sun is generous.
