First stop Dubai - a city consisting of architectural masterpieces, fancy cars, and a breathtaking skyline. That's our imagination :D
6:15 am (4:15 German time) - We get off the plane and it's hot... very hot and we were dressed for the German weather.
We strap on the 18kg backpack, exchange money, and off we go - wrong!!!
How do we get away from the airport - the most difficult puzzle in my 19 years of life :D
The sequence of events on that day.....
We looked for a taxi - but we were at 'Departures', which we only realized later - so back to the terminal
To the bus station - didn't know if the bus was the right one - so back to the terminal
Then a taxi driver at 'Arrival' wanted to take us, but not an official one, rather someone who took us to the furthest corner of a parking garage and wanted to rip off 200 DM (Dirhams not Deutsche Mark) from us and who knows where we would have ended up :D :D So back to the terminal
--> By this point, we had crossed a pedestrian crossing with a policeman regulating it so many times that the policeman must have thought we were crazy.
Exhausted from the ordeal, we settled in the entrance hall. There we were - the airport's wifi worked so-so - but then a glimmer of hope - A Coca Cola for a whopping 2 DM or 50 cents.... Ufff --> So we gathered our strength and continued searching.......
We found our way out using wifi and started our journey back to the bus station, where we promptly met a bus driver. In broken English, he told us that this was the right bus.... Full of joy and relief, and with the first foot on the bus - there comes the disappointing question: 'Do you have a card?'.
Of course, we didn't - you usually buy it on the bus - But not in Dubai NO!!! Instead, in the metro...........
You buy the bus ticket in the metro..... So back to the terminal and around the pedestrian crossing again (we estimate we crossed it 8 times)
So off to the metro - no time to waste - go to the information desk - buy a card and off to the bus (oh, there's the 9th time :D) So...... So far so good.......
