1.0 Weimar House and Goethe Fountain

Publicerad: 07.03.2018

Hello from Weimar.

After a four-hour bus ride, we finally arrived at our hostel. After getting our room keys, we went to our room. Making the beds was a lot of fun for us because the sheets were apparently a bit too small for our mattresses, making it difficult for us to make the beds. At 3:00 p.m., we went to the Weimar House. Divided into groups of ten, we visited the rooms. We were startled in the first room as the animations were very well done. Those who know the Dungeon can relate to it. After this short tour of Weimar's history, we went on our own expedition to get an impression of the city. First, we went in search of the Goethe Fountain. It took a little longer for us to find the Goethe Fountain because there are clearly too many of them here. When we reached our destination, we were a little disappointed because there was not much of a crowd there. Overall, there were many tourist attractions such as cafes, restaurants, and guest houses in the vicinity of the square, but still not many people. In the past, the fountain served as a water dispenser, while today a sign indicates that it is no longer drinking water. Behind the fountain, there were several benches, which were hardly occupied today. We did not discover a market, as history suggests. Only a single, lost-looking bratwurst stand. One reason for this emptiness could be that social networks influence us so much. In the past, the market square was used as a meeting place to socialize and trade with others around the Goethe Fountain. Whereas today, networks like WhatsApp and co. almost completely occupy this social space of communication. We found our lost market between the town hall and the Cranach House. There you can find everything the heart desires at low prices, from clothing to accessories to fruit. The new market is located near the town hall and is therefore centrally located. The social space of the Goethe Fountain has shifted northwards, as this is where the central meeting points for people are today, instead of being near the fountain as in the past.

We will check in again after visiting the Roman House.

See you soon!
