Saturday 22.05.2010 / Atlanta (Georgia)
The flight is going as planned, everything is full. In Atlanta, you collect your luggage and transport it to a drop-off point, which is right in front of another security check for people checking in for flights. Unfortunately, the exit is only behind that, so we have to line up again, take off our shoes, have everything screened - G. gets rid of the wine that Lufthansa gave her because her entertainment system wasn't working. Liquid regulation when leaving an airport? That is really stupid. After the security check, you take a subway to the next terminal, where our luggage can be found on a conveyor belt or next to it somewhere at the end. The area here is freely accessible and it is quite nice that our luggage is still here after about 1.5 hours...
We take a shuttle train to the car rental and quickly sit in a golden Toyota Corolla that we could choose from cars of the same class. The size of the trunk was decisive :-D.
We're off on the highway east to the coast. The destination should be Macon, but we're still fit and we keep driving. The landscape is not exciting, the road is straight, so we almost miss the only turnoff towards Savannah and almost end up driving to Florida.
In a small town called Dublin, we find an Econo Lodge for $51 per room. There is a restaurant opposite, where we can still grab something to eat despite the late hour and have the first ice-cold Budweiser. We're in bed at 10:30 p.m.
