The rainy days begin. Actually, we wanted to do the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing tomorrow. But when we look at the weather, we're not really sure if it's possible. Nevertheless, we decide to drive to Tongariro National Park and ask at the information center. The woman at the reception advises us against hiking the next day and adds that the hike doesn't make sense before Tuesday or Wednesday. The wind, a significant factor in the hike, is currently too strong. Not to mention the rain...
Disappointed with the forecast, we find a campground near Taupo.
We flee with our cooking utensils through the pouring rain to the campground's kitchen and prepare a colorful vegetable pan with couscous. While we enjoy the meal, a French family joins us in the kitchen. They expertly mix a crepe batter and we start talking. Lucky for us. ;) With the crepe batter, they could probably have fed not only the three French people, but also the rest of the campground. But since no one else is there except us, we get the dessert. Outstanding!!
I dream of the crepes, Rebecca of her upcoming birthday.
