We have been on the road for a week now and the good weather is continuing. It was a bit hazy today, but the sun is coming out again in the afternoon. Our destination today was the laurel forest of Fanal, about 20 km from here, but for the Citroen it is another huge climb. That is a challenge for every driver! Of course, many have been here much earlier, hoping for fog, but even without it, these old, twisted trees are worth seeing and who wants to drive the narrow roads in fog? The plateau with the laurel forest is about 1300m high. The trees are covered in beard lichen and you walk as if on cotton wool, on thick cushions of moss. We were above the clouds again! On the way there we passed a large charred forest. A sign that beauty is fleeting here too. After visiting the old laurel forest, we went back down the winding road, and a vacation on the terrace in the vineyard with a view of the Atlantic was in order. There is chirping all day long and lizards sunbathing everywhere on the warm stones.
