This morning we went to the 'city center', which is about 4 km away from us. Luckily, it was still relatively pleasant on the way there, since it was in the morning, but you could already feel the power of the sun :p
The streets look like what we saw yesterday - quite American :D They are wide and there are hardly any pedestrians. And yeah. You could have walked along this street for hours without the scenery changing. This seems to be purely a residential area ;-)
Every now and then there may be a laundry or a snack shop, but otherwise the shops etc. are more centrally located, like in the USA, at different plazas and shopping courts, so it was almost a bit boring to walk along there for so long. I couldn't believe that a real city center was waiting at the end.
And that's how it was (not) :D In the 'city center' (we can only guess whether it really was, according to Google) there were a few more shops, also for tourist stuff like swimming rings or caps with 'I heart Mexico', but overall it was still more like a car street^^
Finally, we reached the plaza where there is a DHL station. We wanted to check it out so that we can use it as a 'mailbox' while we are here and take care of paperwork.
Actually, the station was there and the employee was not only friendly but also spoke a little English, which made communication much easier :D Cool :)
Next to the DHL, there was also a huge Walmart in the complex. Since I lost my cap on the Habal-Habal in the Philippines and Jonas actually uses his (!!!), I definitely wanted to buy a new headgear <3
So we spontaneously went shopping at Walmart, where after some trying out, I bought a straw hat, a new pair of sunglasses (yes, I also successfully destroyed my old sunglasses :( ) and: a foldable yoga mat :O
I always avoided doing the exercises because I didn't want to do them on tiles or something, but now I finally have no more excuses and can start fully! (*cough :D Let's see how many days it lasts :p)
After checking out the non-food items, we also checked out the assortment at Walmart and Jonas felt like he was in heaven when he saw all the spicy sauces <3 ;-)
But in the end, we only ended up with hummus and spaghetti in the bag, but it's also fun to look at things :p
From the plaza, it's just about 5 minutes to the sea and the road leading there looks quite fancy and green with a kind of promenade that might have been more inviting at lower temperatures or shade^^
We walked past the trees towards the water and when we reached the beach, we were...well, unimpressed/surprised? :D :D
It's such a small area separated from the rest of the sea by sandbags. Nobody was there and only a collection of empty beer bottles gave a hint that people gather here at all^^
Okay. Chetumal is located on the sea, but you don't really need to visit the beach. We already read that beforehand, but calling this piece a beach was pretty amusing :D
The way back to the accommodation was really hot. Well, now I had a hat and my own sunglasses, but we stopped a few times in the shade for a drinking break (#stay hydrated ;-) ).
At the bus station, we bought a ticket to Bacalar for the next day and spent the rest of the day in the apartment watching YouTube, but actually also doing strength exercises on the new yoga mat! :O :D :D
