The first destination was Karijini National Park. After nine hours of driving, we were almost there. I was really excited about the park because many people consider it one of the highlights on the west coast and one of the most beautiful national parks in Australia in general.
The park has many different gorges with great walks and swimming spots. Some of the paths are really adventurous and quite dangerous. For example, to reach Kermit Pool in Hancock Gorge, you can only go through a rock crevice with the Spiderwalk (see picture). My legs were shaking a lot! :-)
But after every trail, no matter how challenging it may be, you are rewarded with beautiful swimming spots.
In the park, we met a group of three Dutch people, two Germans, and one British woman whom we had met in Broome. From that moment on, we kept running into the six of them all the time. Occasionally, we even managed to stay at the same places overnight. :-)
After days of so much activity and effort, I realized once again that my fitness is really lacking!
