India in Singapore

E hatisitsoe: 12.02.2019

We have been to Little India many times before. On Saturday, we went there one last time to dive into the hustle and bustle and get a few things.

We visited some temples that we hadn't seen before. One of them had a huge Buddha statue that reached up to the ceiling. You could stick small gold plates on a smaller Buddha figure for money. Gold is said to ward off evil.

In another temple, it became clear how many different gods there are in Hinduism. Durga and Kali have especially remained in our memories, with their 14 arms or devouring their children. Many Hindus also wear their bindi not only as an accessory, but to show which of the many deities they worship.

We also went to the Mustafa Centre one more time (it's open 24 hours). Here you can get everything. REALLY EVERYTHING! You can get lost on the 5 huge floors. But this time we went straight to the floor with the food, bought our little things and got a delicious mango lassi in the end.

We then walked along Serangoon Road to the Teccacentre. There are jewelry stores and henna stores all along the street. I have already had a beautiful henna tattoo done here.

At the Teccacentre, there is a wet market downstairs. It smells quite bad here, as a lot of meat is processed. Upstairs, there is a huge colorful selection of Indian garments. Really nice!

It is noticeable that you hardly ever see tourists in Little India, you actually feel a little bit like in India. Or like how you imagine it to be.

I am very curious to see what India will really be like! We will know more in two weeks!
