Everything is relative....

E hatisitsoe: 29.07.2021

Yesterday we didn't manage to plan a proper tour for today, so we agreed to start from here and choose a destination at the end of the village where the signs are. In fact, we simply passed by the signpost towards Brotjacklspitze. From the parking lot, there is a bike path sign that we want to follow. Through the forest and down to Schöfweg. There is a tourist office in the town hall there and we hope to be able to buy suitable maps. The lady is very friendly - but there is nothing available for this area. No bike paths and therefore no maps. However, she gives us 2 maps that show long-distance bike paths and the BayernRadnetz. We sit in the sun in front of the town hall and inspect the maps. We ride to Regen. We go up and down on less crowded country roads, it's very nice to ride and shortly before Regen, we discover beautiful horses in a pasture that we urgently wanted to photograph. We arrive in Regen just in time for lunch. There is a nice Italian restaurant directly on the riverside where we can get some delicious food and I (Mario) study the maps. From Regen, there is a bike path along the river directly to Patersdorf. From there, the WaldbahnRadweg leads to Deggendorf and from there it should be no problem to ride back.

I (Petra) am convinced of this route during a break in Deggendorf when Mario promises me Spaghetti Eis. So we agree that this should be the route for today. The Bavarian Forest is incredibly great for cycling. Along the way, we keep discovering special farms, beautifully landscaped gardens, or a company that builds funny little houses on trailers. It is so diverse that it is always fun. Well, over the course of a long day, there are also phases where the fun diminishes. When we reach Deggendorf, a small drama unfolds because our route home definitely leads past the city rather than directly into the Spaghetti Eis paradise. So, we spontaneously move ice cream from the "definitely do today" to the "another time" list. At this point, we still have 27 kilometers left and everyone involved is aware that we have to overcome quite a few meters in altitude.

Today, we have learned a lot about the theory of relativity. Riding e-bikes is relatively great, sunshine is relatively great, hiking in the mountains is relatively great. When your batteries run out 4 kilometers before reaching home after cycling 96 kilometers and you have to push your heavy e-bikes uphill in the blazing sun, everything is relative... well, in retrospect, we are proud of ourselves. The odometer shows a total of 99.97 km, including 4 kilometers on foot with 300 meters of altitude. What a workout! We have earned a schnitzel with fries for dinner. We can't have dessert because we are both so tired that we were afraid of falling asleep while eating dessert.
