Day 17: Grand Canyon and Route 66

E hatisitsoe: 23.05.2017

Today we went from Williams to the Grand Canyon. Although or precisely because we were here two years ago, it was another highlight for us. I think there is little that is more impressive than what nature has to offer.

We were lucky with the weather: bright sunshine, no fog! We took a few stations with the free shuttle bus and then walked along the South Rim back to the parking lot. It was just as impressive as expected. The photos speak for themselves. Just before the parking lot, an elk grazed calmly right next to the tourists. The hour-long walk in the sun was very refreshing, but also made us tired again.

Back in the car, we headed towards our destination Kingman, Arizona. But we didn't take the fastest route, instead we drove a section on the old Route 66. Here it is called Historic Route 66. We passed through the town of Seligman. Here there is Lilo's Café. Lilo is a German woman who has run the restaurant since 1996. It is more of a restaurant with a souvenir shop. We took the opportunity to treat ourselves to a burger again. Not a highlight, but the place was quaint and cozy. Souvenirs were also bought.

Overall, there was no romance on Route 66, as hoped. The landscape was dry and the towns were pitifully poor and run down. 🙁

Here in Kingman it was 96° Fahrenheit. To be able to do something with that, I have an app!😊
