Sleeping well in the big Double Tree Hilton bed. We wake up refreshed and have breakfast in the main building. The buffet is large and plentiful. With full stomachs, we pack our bags, check out of the hotel, and do some shopping in Alice Springs. This includes snacks for the road and water. We also buy sun hats and fly nets for our faces on wise advice. By 10:00 AM, the thermometer rises to 32 degrees. So, quickly back to the car, where the air conditioning cools wonderfully. Now it's time to start the long drive (468km) from Alice Springs to Kings Canyon. We leave with Hector and are amazed by the good road conditions and the rather green landscape. Meanwhile, the thermometer rises to 41 degrees. At an intersection, we see the first gas station with a shop. We refuel, get some food, and continue driving. Along the way, we cross some cattle grids and see individual free horses next to the highway.
The sun disappears more and more behind the clouds and it starts raining. The temperature also drops to a pleasant 25 degrees. We decide to make a little stop and walk the 2.5km trail to Kathleen Springs. It continues to rain, but well equipped with a hat and rain jacket, it is good to stretch our legs.
Back at Hector, it's time to change drivers and Marco takes us to our accommodation at Discovery King Canyon Resort. We check in and settle into our bungalow. It has two big beds, a comfortable bathroom, and a small balcony. We immediately feel comfortable here as well. (This booked set is really top so far.) The resort even has a pool that we consider using later...
Freshly showered and slightly to moderately hungry, we cross the main road to the restaurant. There, we order pumpkin ravioli with spinach, a Caesar salad, and a side portion of country cuts. These side portions have become our downfall. Because the portions are huge, but very delicious! We finish the salad and ravioli. We had to give up on the country cuts and pack them for the next day.
Somewhat exhausted from the long drive, we fall asleep tired and with full stomachs in one of the two beds.
