Letsatsi la 25 - Leeto la Kangaroo Island North

E hatisitsoe: 20.01.2023

It is bright when the alarm clock wakes us up from our dreams, but unfortunately the sun is scarce again today. That's why we keep our sweaters and long pants on all day. We have a hearty breakfast at Yoshi, where kangaroos and wallabies were hopping around last night.

Today we're heading to the north of the island: Stokes Bay, Emu Bay, Kingscote and American River. The first stop is about 75km away in the north of the island. After an hour, we reach the parking lot of Stokes Bay. At first glance, nothing special. But through a tunnel of rocks, a narrow path leads to the adjacent bay. What a great sight! If it were sunny or less windy, we would linger here. However, the cold weather quickly drives us back to the car.

The next stop is Emu Bay. A gigantic white stretch of beach lies before us. We take a few steps on the sand here too. But the cold and wind are quite persistent. Let's go to stop 3.

Kingscote, a larger village with shops, cafes, a hotel and houses. We stroll through Kingscote, visit some shops, and have coffee at the restaurant on the waterfront. For once, there is relatively good Wi-Fi there. Afterwards, we buy bread, salad and vegetables. And yes, some chocolate nuts.

Our last stop is American River. A collection of houses by a cozy body of water. But the weather forces us to leave quickly. Since we didn't need as much time as expected in the north today, we decided to drive to the ferry this afternoon and ask for an earlier crossing than tomorrow (05:30 a.m.). Unfortunately, they cannot give us any assurance and put us on the standby line. Maybe there is still space on the next one. Instead of waiting uncertainly, we head to our planned campsite and have dinner. We go to bed earlier tonight and get up early in the morning.
