Where is the nearest gas station???

E hatisitsoe: 21.10.2023

10/10: Tuesday

We could have had such a relaxing car ride, but we wouldn't be Sven and Emilia (and Michel) if something hadn't come up. And in this case it was an (almost) empty tank.

In the morning we relaxed and made our way to Cala Gonone, 2.5 hours away. We were in good spirits to wait for Michel's bedtime and had dismantled in peace, drank coffee and were on the street by 9 a.m. Michel fell asleep without any problems a few minutes later and we were finally able to sit up front together again and talk.

After a good hour of driving, our tank became increasingly empty. In our defense: we started with a range of 150 km and a planned route of 120 km and were fully expecting to at least pass a gas station. According to Google, there shouldn't actually be any gas stations on our way, so we took a detour and rolled into the gas station with the last milliliter of fuel. I have never felt so relieved for Sven as I did at that moment. Maybe that was because I had asked him that morning whether we should stop in town and my husband didn't think that was necessary. But in his defense here too: who knows that there is no refueling in the interior of the country.

The little adventure took us 1.5 hours, which wouldn't have been a problem without the child, but it meant a really long journey for Michel and that had an impact on his mood.

Sven did his best to amuse him, partly because of his guilty conscience.

At midday we reached Cala Gonone, a larger town on the east coast. The campsite (Camping Cala Gonone) is quite large, but the pitches are located between pine trees, which promises pleasant shade, and the distance to the neighbors is sufficient. Not far away is the city beach, which we visited after Michel's long nap in the camper. Unfortunately not highly recommended. By Sardinian standards the water was almost cloudy and the bottom was full of sea urchins. Of course you can't expect much from such a central stretch of beach, but tomorrow we'll look for another spot. The area here is known for beautiful bays and grottos, which can only be reached by boat. We will probably be denied that (this time).

After we had eaten canned food for the last two days, Sven cooked us gnocci with Gorgonzola sauce today. It was a poem again. There's supposed to be pizza tomorrow and we're both busy googling which restaurant we'll be visiting.
