After starting my journey from Helsinki to Bangkok, I was a bit skeptical. After all, it was the first long flight I had ahead of me... and there were only 2 free alcoholic beverages 😛 Just kidding, it wasn't that bad.
We departed at 17:35 local time with Finnair and the flight was supposed to last 9.5 hours. The entertainment program was great, the food was perfect, and you could also catch up on wine and beer during meal times 😊😊
But it's crazy, you travel with xxx people around half the world, see the tiny world below you, and a breathtaking sunset. It was worth it... It immediately grounds you and you appreciate the little things in life, and that's just the beginning.
Sleeping was a bit short, but hey, I have plenty of time to catch up in 4 weeks.
Landed in Bangkok at 7 o'clock local time sharp, the odyssey began. I was prepared by many, Denny, it will blow your mind... And yes, I was completely overwhelmed with myself and the thousand people... The thought 'I hate people' came to mind repeatedly. Fortunately, it was only temporary. So I made it through customs quickly, picked up my backpack, got some cash, and bought a Thai SIM card. So my German number is temporarily out of service.
Then I faced the question of how to get to the hotel...
... Taxi or public transportation... In the beginning, most people take a taxi. But that seemed too obvious to me, so I wanted to try the train.
Buying tickets was pretty simple. The train arrived quickly and after 6 stops, I was near my hotel. According to Google, it was a 25-minute walk. But what I didn't consider was that this was the first time I was outside, the first time I was sniffing Asian 'natural' air. Everything else was pleasant thanks to the air conditioning.
It hit me right away, cars and people everywhere, hot, humidity at 358%.. I just thought to myself, well, it's just a short distance.
And as it had to happen.. I got lost 😂 The great thing about the sidewalks in Bangkok is that there are no pedestrian traffic lights. Not that it's hard enough for a little boy from a province with 500 inhabitants to deal with left-hand traffic, now I don't even know where and when a car, moped, bicycle, tuk-tuk is coming around the corner 🙉🙊. But everything went smoothly... I reached the hotel in 45 minutes. The Thais can immediately tell when you're clueless and they help you.
Nevertheless, there are too many of them 😝
I have to write a separate post about the hotel.... Oh boy... I think a lot of people will hate me for that 😇
