Our language is full of idioms - one of them being: this is half a world trip!
I recently told one of my students, "think carefully if you're ready for it, it's half a world trip to get there" - it was about a trial apprenticeship that required about 1.5 hours of travel by public transport! But what does it really mean, is it half a world trip from Birr to Muri?
I just completed half a world trip - and this time it's literally true!
On Saturday morning, shortly after eight o'clock, I left my apartment in Aarau, and just a few minutes ago, I landed in Auckland - it's Monday morning shortly after nine o'clock here - in Aarau, it's Sunday evening shortly after 9pm... so I was on the road for about 37 hours and now I'm about 18,000 kilometers away from Aarau - it can hardly get any further away than this! So this is it - this mysterious half a world trip! My sister's travel route underlines this as well. While I headed east to New Zealand via Hong Kong, my sister flew west to Auckland via San Francisco, even in slightly less time due to a shorter transfer time...
After a short bus ride, we reach the hotel, but we won't stay there for long, because after all, we're here to visit Auckland, which we did right away!
