Oh Canada...

E hatisitsoe: 13.08.2018

We got up early this morning. Quickly packed our bags, enjoyed some muffins with our hostess, and off we went towards Canada.

Before that, we had about 100 km to cross through Maine.

Maine is approximately like the Sauerland region in Germany. Just without pastures and farms, towns, Dutch people, and the Sauerland star.

Forests as far as the eye can see. And a lake every two kilometers.

We drove on abandoned country roads and also saw the other, poor America. Towns where the houses looked like a hurricane had just passed over them. Junk in the front yard, garbage in the backyard, and Borussia Dortmund flags on the roof. Very sad...

After about 2 hours, we saw the border in sight. A quick check, and at 11:36 am, we set foot on Canadian soil for the first time. Or, to be precise, we rolled the first tire on Canadian soil...

The road leads back towards the coast, and we took the "Fundy Highway" that leads along the coast towards Saint John in New Brunswick.

Here too, we came across dreamy bays on one side, while on the other side, coniferous forests stretched as far as the horizon. Enough firs and spruces to meet the demand for Christmas trees for the next twenty years. Provided you have ten-meter-high living rooms...

Every now and then, small lakes and rivers with rapids or small waterfalls appeared.

At around three o'clock, we reached the port city of Saint John. And what did we see in the harbor? An Aida...

But first we checked in at the Hilton. Although we could check in from 3:00 pm, the rooms were not ready yet. We didn't really mind because we wanted to eat first. However, the lady at the reception felt so awkward that she initially gave us two drink vouchers for the bar. So, free drinks...

... and then she told us that she had given us a room upgrade. Originally, we were supposed to have a room with two queen-size beds and a city view, but she changed it to two king-size beds with a harbor view. You have to be lucky!

After dining at the three-star restaurant "Tim Hortons", we strolled through the city for a bit. Saint John is a beautiful, cozy harbor town with small-town charm...

After an hour, we walked back to the hotel. The Aida was supposed to depart at 7:15 pm. Since we could see her berth from our hotel room, we didn't want to miss the spectacle...

Nicole and Aaron went for a swim in the pool for an hour. In the meantime, I tried to ignore the Swedish women's beach volleyball team that was training in the newly built beach volleyball field on the waterfront...

We ended the day with a view of the harbor at night...
