After a bit of excitement about whether the tour scheduled for today had to be postponed, we set off again towards the south with the pick up service. Through the colorful capital Castries, where we picked up divers from huge cruise ships, and along winding roads with spectacular views of the coast and the green hell of the mountainous inland, we drove to Marigot Bay, which we admired from the sea side yesterday. On the dive ship, we crossed over to the other side of the bay, where our guide, Diaz, instructed us in paddle technique. Together with an American couple, we started out from the bay onto the sea, along the rocky coast and past a small bay. On land, we arrived at the beautiful, secluded Roseau Beach, where we were greeted by a few small children who immediately started talking to us. We loaded the boats a few meters further into a lagoon on the Roseau River and now we could comfortably paddle through the mangroves on our own. It was truly a mystical and amazing sight. Vines hung over the river and wild root formations were visible on the shore. After the mangrove adventure, we paddled up the river a bit further through a plantation with bananas, sugar cane, and coconuts. Diaz climbed the palm tree and picked some ripe coconuts for us, which we later enjoyed in Marigot Bay. Just as we were about to pull the boats back into the sea, a heavy rain shower came down on us, despite the so far glorious sunshine. Together with the family living on the beach, we took refuge under the awning of their house, where we met the little Shalaya, who talked with Marina. After a few minutes, the sun came out again and we attempted to kayak in the water with quite strong winds and waves. We needed a few tries, as the waves kept crashing over us. Marina's sunglasses may now be with Shalaya. The sunglasses made a graceful exit while in the water! After the somewhat challenging return journey to Marigot Bay, we can look back on a very special experience that was a lot of fun and left us with new impressions.
