Arrived in Buenos Aires

My journey in Buenos Aires is now two days old and I have already experienced a lot!

Day 1: After moving into the room with a Norwegian, a Belgian, and a Brazilian at night, I met them in the morning. After breakfast at the hostel, I set out to explore the city for the first time. The Plaza del Congreso with a park and the Congress building is right outside the door. Then I took the Subte (subway) four stops to Plaza de Mayo. Also worth seeing thanks to a green park and an amazing building!

There I also met a Swiss person who recommended Puerto Madero to me. There is a promenade on the Río de la Plata with many cafes and restaurants. Allegedly the safest area in all of South America (?). Anyway, it's more bearable there than in the city center thanks to the wind. It's a nice exception with clear skies and over 30 degrees. Behind the promenade there is a lagoon with lots of nature. There are various food stands with seating along the promenade. Since it was a public holiday (Carnival) on February 27th, mostly locals were here.

And why is the entire parking strip blocked with buckets of water here? That became clear when a car parked there and a group of five with sponges and cleaning agents arrived...

I spent the evening at the concert 'La Bomba De Tiempo'. 15 men with various instruments put on a cool performance. The location, an old factory site with an open-air stage, was very impressive. The company there consisted of my Norwegian roommate and an Australian and German that I met there. Very good stuff!

Day 2: After breakfast, I went on a tour to the district of La Recoleta organized by the hostel at 12 o'clock. For 40 pesos (about 2.50€), a staff member of Milhouse Hostels took us on a tour of the district for about 5 hours, telling us a lot about the history of the district, the buildings, and the people. The group consisted of hostel residents from all possible nations (Scotland, Wales, Denmark, Germany, Chile, Brazil) and all ages (20-50 years).

After about 5 sweaty hours in the midday heat, the tour ended around 5pm near the hostel. After eating with a Dane, it was nice to have a date with the shower at the hostel.

That's it for the first two days in Buenos Aires.
