Day 7 - 5.9.2024 Yosemite NP

E hatisitsoe: 06.09.2024

Today is already day seven. We are in Fresno and have just enjoyed our sweet trash breakfast thoroughly. It's amazing how much plastic and paper cups they have here.

We were able to set off toward the national park relatively quickly. It took a full two and a half hours. The traffic on the roads was already quite heavy. We then took a right turn just before the valley to Glacier Point and looked at the valley from above. There were so many people there. By the roadside, there were signs reading 'Speeding kills bears' from time to time. Kathi then looked up what that meant. At every point where such a sign was placed, a bear had already been killed by a car. And there were quite a few signs along the roadside. This year, eleven bears have already been killed.

Unfortunately, we didn’t see a single one. Or thank God?

After viewing the valley from above, we continued into the valley. You could stop repeatedly in between and gain new impressions. Once we arrived in the valley, we parked and made our way through the bushes to the Merced River and cooled off in the water. It was 38° in the valley. On the way back, the temperature rose to 107 Fahrenheit, which is around 42°.

It was also very warm in Mariposa, where we are staying, with 39 degrees.

We finally went out for a proper meal. In the evening, I wandered a bit through Mariposa to stretch my legs. Mariposa is a very small historical town with many old houses and shops, making it perfectly located for visiting the national park.
