In Esperance our 'sightseeing' started at Pink Lake. From there, we drove along the 'Great Ocean Drive Esperance' past 9 different and beautiful beaches. When we arrived at Pink Lake, we were initially disappointed as the lake was not pink like in the pictures. Later, we asked the locals and they explained to us that the lake has been damaged for about 5 years because the farmers disposed of something in the lake. However, the beaches were beautiful, and at some of them, we just enjoyed the view from the observation platform. Eventually, we had seen enough beaches. Twilight Beach was chosen by the Australians as the most beautiful beach in Australia, and rightly so. We spent some time at a few of the beaches and savored the moment. In the evening, we went to a campsite, our home for the next two nights.
The next morning, we explored the city and went shopping. We replenished all our supplies (food, drinks, diesel cans). After our time here, we will be driving through off-road tracks in two national parks and then directly 1000 km through the Nullarbor Desert towards the east. We spent the afternoon at Ten Mile Lagoon, a magnificent beach with lots of waves to watch and endless opportunities for walks. For dinner, we treated ourselves to delicious homemade burgers.
We are excited about the drive through the desert. These were probably the last beautiful beaches for relaxation. We will miss the enchanting beaches and the sea.
