Day 55 - 11/03/23
Today was a travel day for us - 6 hours from Te Anau to Lake Tekapo with mostly good weather and again wonderful landscapes.
Lake Tekapo is one of the dry areas of the South Island and you can often see the irrigators spraying and the vegetation changes compared to the lush areas we have traveled to in New Zealand so far.
When we arrived in Lake Tekapo we started talking to the two guys in reception. Regarding our plans to go to Lake Tekapo for whale watching in Kaikoura, they strongly discouraged us and pointed us to the better area off Sydney. As an alternative to Kaikoura, we were recommended Akaroa, located southeast of Christchurch on the sea. Since our middle name is “Flexibility”, we quickly chose the cancellation option and booked a place to stay in Akaroa for 2 nights. We will then wade the whales in Sydney.
