Day 61/62 - 09/10/11/23 - Good Bye New Zealand
Although Christchurch has a population of 400,000, it feels rather provincial. This is obviously really good for the city, because it seems relaxed and has beautiful corners and parks.
There are a lot of murals/graffiti here, in an artistic sense.
What's striking is that you can't see any graffiti on the walls.
There is a striking amount of building going on here, most of it in a cubic style.
The church in the center of the city, which was badly damaged by the last major earthquake, is currently being rebuilt. A temporary church has now been set up, largely made of cardboard tubes, and has now become a tourist attraction in its own right.
Tomorrow we leave New Zealand after 44 days and approx. 3,000 KM.
A sad farewell.
We have very, very fond memories of the “kiwis”. Life here is simply less exciting than we are unfortunately used to in Germany and Europe.
