#4 - Goodbye Medellin

E hatisitsoe: 16.02.2018

Just four more days, lots of exciting impressions, great acquaintances, overwhelmed by this huge city, and slowly getting tired of the weather changes, we are moving on to the warmer part of Colombia.

But before we leave, we are going to explore a new part of the city. So, we are heading to Plaza Botero, which is known for its sculptures by the artist Fernando Botero. The sculptures have exaggerated proportions and people are taking pictures of them everywhere. One sculpture stands out because it represents a suicide bomber who killed many people. The artist decided to keep it to symbolize healing and created a new sculpture next to it. As we explore this neighborhood, we realize that the people here are poorer than in El Poblado. When we walk through the plaza and pass by the different market stalls, we encounter many pushy and diverse individuals who sleep or use drugs in public. I also notice that wearing shorts is not ideal in this big city. Despite the temperature suggesting otherwise, I feel uncomfortable and many men are disrespectful with their stares and comments, even though Dani is always by my side. However, there is a sense of security because there are many security guards on the plaza, so we soon return to our neighborhood.

After enjoying a freshly squeezed juice made from maracuya, passion fruit, and orange, we head back to our accommodation and learn a little bit of German from our host, Pablo (yes, that's really his name). He really wants to communicate better with his guests and we are impressed by his effort. He insists that we come back and hang out with him again. He has really grown on us - and we on him.

Just in time, it starts raining again and we head to the airport. The perfect moment to continue our journey to Cartagena. When we take off, we see that our destination will have a temperature of 26 degrees upon arrival. Contrary to many travel reports, our flight is punctual and pleasant, even though the airport is not very well organized. But it's not a big deal.

As expected, Cartagena is warm and our new home is modern and right on the beach. We are glad that we can do our laundry right away...
