Epilogue

E hatisitsoe: 06.07.2022

As mentioned in the last post, we booked a boat trip to Stein am Rhein from Konstanz for the return journey to Singen, and from there we continued by bike. Stein am Rhein is a beautiful old town on the Swiss side, but also with Swiss prices, so we resisted the diverse culinary offerings.

The next day it was Schaffhausen's turn, about 25 km from Singen. Of course, we were mainly there because of the Rhine Falls. It is really impressive. On the way back to Singen, we took a slightly different route, which challenged us a little bit in terms of incline. We arrived back in Singen just in time before the predicted thunderstorm.

The next morning it was time for us to start our return journey by train. At least the train was on time. There were actually enough bicycle spaces, but the door where there would have been the most space didn't open. So we had to squeeze into another carriage. There would have actually been enough space here too, if the bicycle spaces hadn't been occupied by a large number of non-bicyclists. But since some of them got off at the next few stations, the situation relaxed. In Basel, we had over an hour to change platforms. Unfortunately, there was no elevator, so we had to take the bicycles down the stairs. But on the platform where our EC train was announced, there was fortunately a ramp (it is possible after all). The EC train also departed on time. However, in Freiburg, we were informed about a temporary track closure due to a medical emergency. This, together with a detour due to construction work, cost us a total of one hour, so we arrived in Cologne exactly 61 minutes late (with a delay of over 60 minutes, you can get 25% of the travel price refunded - not bad at all). Thank you, Deutsche Bahn.
