Day 4

May 18, 2021

Greeted by a strong west-southwest wind blowing around the camper with 3 - 4 Beaufort, the new day welcomes us on Fehmarn. It is still quite early as we start the day and there is not a soul in sight at the campsite. After breakfast and a short walk on the beach, we start our tour of the island around 8 o'clock in the morning.

The first point we visit is the Flügge lighthouse in the southwest of the island. We read on the Internet that the lighthouse was closed. Nevertheless, we walk the 2 km from the parking lot and take beautiful drone shots. We don't stay long as the camper is parked in a parking lot of a campsite, and we don't want to test their patience. The official parking lot was closed and limited to 2.20 m; the camper is 2.60 m high.

Next place to visit is the village of Orth with its small harbor. Here, we stroll along the quay, admire the ships, and occasionally take a look into the harbor water, where you can also observe a variety of animals. We sit down on a bench at the entrance to the harbor and watch the ships leave and enter and the deep blue sea. Once we have seen everything in Orth, we head to our next point: Staberhuk.

This is the southeastern part of the island. Here, we have some sandwiches for lunch while observing the bustling activity in the parking lot. A little later, we go down to the beach and walk southwards. Progress is slow as we constantly look down at the ground and search for pebbles with holes, which we later want to string on a rope like a chain. At some point, we look back and realize that we have walked quite far. So we make our way back to the car and drive to the last point we want to visit today.

Our destination is Puttgarden. From here, a ferry goes to the island of Lolland in Denmark. We find a free parking lot and walk towards the ferry port on the dike. At first, we sit at the very front of the pier and wait for the ferry to leave, which we saw entering on the way there. Shortly afterwards, it's time and it sails past us onto the sea. This arouses my longing for Scandinavia.

After this day of walking (17000 steps), we return to the campsite. Today, we have rice with chicken skewers and tsatsiki for dinner, yum..
