The west is the best

E hatisitsoe: 18.08.2020

Since we had now taken the Château de Dinan, yesterday it was time to leave the place and move on. We took care of some errands like shopping and refueling and then started the final stage of the journey. The destination was Le Conquet, the almost westernmost point on the mainland of France. We arrived there early in the afternoon and were quite excited. Once again, extremely spacious pitches, not too crowded but even rather quiet, sanitary facilities are somewhat outdated, but sufficient for our needs. The weather played into our hands this time, as it was sunny, rain-free and very warm. We quickly set up and got everything ready and then immediately went to the beach. The beach is less than 5 minutes away behind a dune, fine sand and holiday blue water. That's how you want it!

The evening hunger was satisfied by Herbert and then we went straight back to the beach. The sunset was approaching and we wanted to treat ourselves to it. Armed with a blanket, something to drink, the music box and camera, we sat by the sea and were the happiest people in Brittany for the next few hours. There are still tides here too, and low tide was just happening. The beach is in a bay, on the left side you can see an arm of the mainland, which boasts an old fortress on the cliffs. On the right side, there are also cliffs and a distant village with a small harbor in front of it. The sun sank lower and lower and we were busy taking the most beautiful photos, what a fantastic spot! We enjoyed the evening so much as a trio that we returned to Herbert very late and then the desire to write the blog was practically non-existent. We prefer to live off the impressions and fall asleep with the great pictures. Even on vacation, you have to be able to set priorities.

This morning we slept in again and had a leisurely breakfast outdoors. The weather was supposed to be just as fantastic as yesterday, so we decided to make the most of the day and stay here for another night instead of sitting in the car and driving for kilometers in this beautiful weather. So we packed our backpack, put on our hiking boots, and headed back towards the beach. However, not all the way there, because before that we turned left and followed the coastal hiking trail through the dunes, past wild berry bushes and ferns, over small hills and through gentle troughs. The path meandered through the landscape to the named cliff with the fort. However, this is on a small island that can be climbed if you climb over many large rocks, as there is no direct way there. At high tide, this island is also cut off from the rest and you can no longer get there until low tide sets in.

The coastal hiking trail led completely around the tip, in full sunshine and without a single shade-giving tree, to end on the paved road that took us back to the campsite. In total, it was about 9km through (almost) untouched landscape with fantastic views of the bathing bay and surroundings. Marvelous, I tell you!

However, after a short stop at Herbert, we didn't stay in one place for long, because the weather had to be enjoyed, who knows how long we can still enjoy it like this. So back into swimming gear and off to the beach. Some bathers had the same idea, but there was enough space for everyone. However, the water of the Atlantic was slightly chilly, around 19 degrees Celsius, so a short cooling off was enough and then we immediately lay down in the sun and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon like a vacationer.

For dinner, we didn't have anything grilled today, but outdoor cooking. Since our gas grill also has 2 gas burners, we simply moved the kitchen outside and prepared the spaghetti with tomato sauce while sitting down. That's also something fine, it almost borders on luxury camping.

Conclusion of the last two days: This wonderful place is a great place to stay, pitch super, beach 1A, landscape top and the weather was the icing on the cake.

From now on, we are already starting the return journey, because there is no further to the west and half of the time is already over. But we will certainly experience and see a lot in the next few days as well. I am convinced of that!

Best regards
