A hike at Ristafallet

E hatisitsoe: 07.09.2023

Yay the rain is finally over! High time for our hike around the Ristafallet. Sweden's second largest waterfall. Small spoiler ahead. There are way too many photos again, so a photo spam is imminent 🤭.

However, we deviated from the planned route right from the start. The car park at the campsite, like so many car parks, is subject to a fee. According to the internet, there is a free parking area on the opposite side at the viewpoint. Since we are planning a circular route anyway, we start on the other side and are greeted directly by the thunderous noise of the waterfall.

The planned Komoot path leads very high up almost along the road. Around the waterfall there are many small, cute forest paths that go directly along the water. The terrain isn't easy, but it's a lot of fun. Overall, this will definitely take us twice as long as Komoot intended. But it's definitely worth deviating from the path.

The waterfall immediately greets us with a rainbow

Since we walk so close to the water, the pack naturally stays on a leash. Much to the chagrin of Mia, who would certainly be crazy enough to want to go swimming here herself 😅.

The Kelpies wanted to photobomb and play picture frames

This meant that the Kelpies took their chance and bombed the photo 😂. Nobody else has such a cool picture frame 🤭. A little further down we tried taking a selfie again. However, the backlight made it more of a shadow image.

Ok, it wasn't that easy with the self-timer

But there is a bright one 🥰

Hey there was a bright picture 😂. The lighting conditions were really difficult.

The river flow after the waterfall is completely calm in places and very rapid in places. It's really crazy how different the passages can be. The rainbow seems to accompany us on our walk 🥰.

The rainbow follows us

Overall, we both like the Ristafallet even better than the Tännforsen. The area is much more accessible and there are beautiful hiking trails around the river.

The Ristafallet 🥰

Finally the rain is over. After the many rainy days we enjoy the sun even more 🤗.

The fir trees in the picture are very typical of the area here

Unfortunately, after a while Komoot leads us back out of the forest and to a bridge that leads over the entire river. First we have to cross a busy one-lane bridge. Luckily there wasn't much going on, so only one car came towards us. But something else is definitely pleasant.

On to the other side

But it doesn't stop at the bridge. Here in Sweden you can always see pedestrians on narrow shoulders of busy roads. Apparently this is completely normal here. The route takes us to the European route, where we have to walk 200m. As a precaution, we stay a little apart on the meadow, which is unfortunately very sloping. Be sure to check the signposted “hiking routes” when you are traveling in Sweden 😅.

After this terrible section of the route, we first take a long break by the water to come down again.

Back at the water

Here we are below the waterfall and a few kilometers away. That's why Mia is finally allowed to go into the water with her paws. She would have liked to go swimming completely but that is definitely too risky. She is an extremely sad dachshund today.

I just want to swim. Biiiitte mom

Arya is overjoyed again here by the water. Finally no longer on a stupid leash on the boring street

Glücklidym

But the sun in the backdrop is also beautiful 🥰

Let's go to the next photo spot. Eventually we have to go back to the waterfall. The closer we get, the more turbulent the water becomes. Of course, to poor Mia's chagrin

I just want to go swimming

Overall, this side of the river is significantly more popular than the other. But the paths are wider and the terrain easier. From the atmosphere we liked the other side better 🥰. But here you can see how the island divides the waterfall. Just beautiful.

Another small waterfall is hidden around the corner

The raptor understood that she gets a cookie for looking cute. I was already wondering why she always sneaks into the picture 😅🍪🦖🧠

Jive simply put himself in the picture. She wanted a cookie 🤭

Uhh I can't decide. The same waterfall again? OK! The same waterfall again. Here you go 😂

The same waterfall again!

A long, long time ago, a scene from the film Ronja the Robber's Daughter was shot in this place. Today, a small sign reminds us of the film shoot. Unfortunately, the film is not available on Nextflix or Amazon Prime Video. Too bad.

Filming location for Ronja the Robber's Daughter

We are slowly getting closer to the Ristafallet. On the way we keep finding small signs to picturesque scenery

The water becomes wilder again

There is even a small platform on this site. The meadow edge M Boden almost looks like a heart 💚

Madness the view on this side is even more impressive

It's amazing how loud it suddenly gets near the waterfall. As soon as you go around the curve, it's almost quiet again.

Mia looks so cute in the photo 🥰

On to the side quest!

Ian's brother has been around before and also paid a visit to the Ristafallet. This picture was taken on her trip back then.

Ian's side quest

Wouldn't it be laughable because we didn't find the exact spot as well. It quickly became clear that the position had to be on this page. And Voila we don't have to look long. I find the quest is completed with bonus XP.

Haha found place 💪

But it's also a nice photo spot 🥰

We'll have to take advantage of that a little further

Here it works much better with the light

I promised you the photo spam. Here's the whole pack again. However, Mia doesn't feel like sharing the fame with the Kelpies at all and is extremely pissed off 😂

Mia prefers the limelight to herself

Her look in the picture is still worth its weight in gold 😂 What luxurious times those were when she was still a pampered only dog.

And another picture.

The backpack is ideal as a mobile phone stand

So now we have to go on so that we can still get back to Plötze Pözze in the light. The path takes us across the campsite that would actually have been the starting point of the tour.

Directly behind the campsite we come to a cute robber meeting place. Even if this place is not marked as a film location, it would make a great headquarters.

headquarters

As we approach the bridge we are briefly afraid. There is a beam with a note hanging in front of the bridge 😬.

We'll see us on the other side

Luckily the bridge is not closed. Phew, that would have been extremely inconvenient. The bridge is covered all over with colorful footprints. Good thing I don't have any paint with me. The impulse to add small, colorful dog paws is extremely strong 😂.

Good thing I don't have any paint with me.

On the other hand, the dogs suddenly start sniffing one spot very excitedly. For some reason the shoulder blade shines here? of an extremely large animal 😬.

Yikes

Shortly before the end, Mia gets her money's worth. Finally she gets to go for a quick swim

Finally swimming

We get back to the car before dark. Today's hike was really more than worth it 🥰
