Hello hello, it's time for a little update again!🌞
After we were in Tioman, we returned to Kuala Lumpur for 2 nights. We enjoyed our last time as a trio there before one of the girls goes to another part of Indonesia.
For me and Sarah, with whom I am currently traveling, we took a flight to Bali, where we spent a night to catch the ferry to the Gili Islands the next morning.
The ferry ride to Gili Trawangan takes about 2 hours, depending on the weather. As soon as we left the harbor, everyone on the boat realized what a wild ride this would be. The weather was great, but it was very windy and there were often high waves on the east coast of Bali. The boat slammed against the water, was tossed from side to side, and I just wanted to escape. Luckily, I wasn't feeling bad because I know myself well by now and know when it's wise to take medication for motion sickness. The crew provided us with barf bags, water, and medication for nausea, all of which were put to good use around me. A couple next to me threw up in a bag together after just 5 minutes of the ride, very romantic haha.
Since I unusually didn't feel sick, I felt almost a little like Superman because the rocking didn't bother me at all and I just had to deal with the fear in my body. However, after nearly 3 hours of travel, we arrived safely and ended the evening at a beach bar.
We then spent 2 nights on Gili Trawangan. During the day, we rode bicycles around the island, went swimming, enjoyed delicious food, and relaxed in cafés. In the evenings, we sat in bars, and getting a massage on the beach was a very nice experience to top it all off!
After 2 nights on Gili Trawangan, we headed to the smallest of the 3 islands; Gili Air. Here everything is a bit more relaxed, less party, and more authentic village. In the area where we are staying, there are many locals, and the whole vibe of the island is really nice. The beach is a bit touristy, but as soon as you venture inland, it becomes very authentic.
We rented bicycles, rode through the beautiful streets of the island, watched the sunset on the beach, and of course swam a lot and soaked up the sun! In the mornings, we got up early to either go for a run before the morning heat or I went to a nearby gym.
We always eat in Warungs, where there is very cheap, extremely delicious local food!
This morning we did yoga, and thus the days go by. Each day is a bit different, but some things repeat themselves: good breakfast, lunch, and dinner, beach, swimming, and of course coffee ;)
Tomorrow we are off to Lombok! I am so looking forward to it, as Lombok is said to be so beautiful and I am filled with anticipation to be there for two weeks, riding scooters, surfing, and spending time with the girls I met in Tioman. They are all coming to Lombok too, so we will have a big reunion. I am also super excited about Lombok because I will be getting a special visit from my brother Lucas, and we will be able to surf together and have a great time!!
