Stage 129: From Rheinmünster to Sélestat

E hatisitsoe: 30.09.2022

There were still about 40 kilometers to Strasbourg. The city is always beautiful, but I've been there a few times already, so I saved myself from doing major sightseeing tours this time. Instead, I preferred to explore the area west of the city. I discovered a very beautiful bike path along the 'Canal de la bruche', which leads all the way to Colmar and is a great alternative to the Rhine bike path (which I already knew). Along the canal, I always found a shady spot, which was worth gold given the temperatures.

Later, the path took me through vineyards and picturesque towns like Molsheim and Obernai. I arrived in Sélestat in the early evening and was able to do some shopping. At that time, there seemed to be some kind of festival in town, everything was full of people, and I didn't even try to find a spot at the campsite. Instead, I wanted to give wild camping a chance south of Sélestat. There were wide fields there, but even late at night, there was somehow activity. Either it was walkers with dogs or farmers harvesting. I initially decided to find a more remote spot, but it looked partially inhabited. There were a few beer bottles lying around and you could see a fire pit. While cooking, I was also noticed by a farmer who stared at me. All in all, it wasn't a comfortable atmosphere. So I decided to drive a little further and set up my tent under a few trees in the dark. Sweaty and tired, I went to bed, with the firm intention of staying at campsites more often.
