Tag 44 - 46 / La Paz

In La Paz we explored the city and went to the city's Witch Market in the morning. There, in addition to the usual artifacts, ingredients for traditional witches are also sold. From herbs and cauldrons to dried baby llamas, there was everything a witch's heart desires.

In the afternoon, we visited one of the most bizarre prisons in the world. It is located in the middle of La Paz and doesn't seem very secure from the outside. Prisoners are supposed to live there with their families, but when we stood outside to have a look, we were immediately sent away. It seems that you can take a tour of the prison for about $50, with a guide, bodyguard, and some of the money is used to bribe the guards to let you in. However, this tour is not considered safe, not to mention that it's also illegal, so we decided not to do it.

In the evening, we walked together to the viewpoint Killi Killi in the city. In retrospect, it was unnecessary because we also took the Teleferico (the city's cable car). It was built by a Swiss company and it feels very safe. There are currently 4 lines and more are being built. They connect the different heights and districts in La Paz very well, and you can get around much faster than on the crowded streets. It only costs €0.36 to ride a line from start to finish.

We also took the Teleferico on Saturday towards Valle de la Luna (Moon Valley). There is no cable car all the way to the entrance, so we took a bus for the last few minutes. This landscape, consisting of many columns and gorges made of sand and small stones, is located only about 10 kilometers from the city center. With a little imagination, you can really feel like you're on the moon, if it wasn't so hot in the blazing sun.

In the evening, we took a night bus to Uyuni.
