South Africa Bimmel Bammel Tour 2024 – The adventure begins!

Here we go!!!

Today is the 31st of October 2024 and the moment has come! The Lufthansa flight LH 576 takes off from Frankfurt at 22:15 and will take us overnight to our dream destination. Steffi, Kristina, and Kai bravely hold out in the office until noon – true heroines and heroes of work!💪

At 13:30, we flood the compressors from Stelvio and zoom from Dortmund to Essen. Steffi and Kai are already ready in full gear – the adventure can begin! However, we found the journey to the airport with the DB too risky. Who knows, perhaps we would have experienced the next adventure right on the tracks! 🫣

At exactly 19:00, we reach Park & Fly in Frankfurt. Then we take the shuttle to the airport. And here we encounter our first surprise: Instead of the friendly ladies in chic white blouses who used to check in our luggage, we are now greeted by futuristic machines like those from Starship Enterprise. Has Lufthansa invented teleportation? That would be nice! Instead, we have to settle for an automated AI for luggage check-in. Admittedly, it was quick – but where have all the nice ladies gone?

Now the vacation really begins!

Due to our endless travel experience, we decided to skip the onboard meal. The choice for dinner fell on the Italian restaurant in Terminal 1. A good decision! After a nightcap, we finally get on board! I have the perfect spot with plenty of legroom. Unfortunately, my travel companion isn’t quite as lucky.

The flight passes quickly, and at 10:45 I hear: “We are now beginning our descent into Cape Town! Crew, please prepare cabin for landing.

The plane empties quickly, but the immigration process takes a while as three planes land simultaneously. Hakuna Matata! Our “onion-clothing system” pays off now: Africa welcomes us with 26 degrees and a brilliantly blue sky – the shirt fits perfectly!

Our bags are already making their way toward us on the baggage carousel. Now to quickly pick up the reserved rental car! And what can I say? This trip can get started: We receive an upgrade and get to drive our old friend, a Toyota Fortuner! 👍

Kai takes the wheel and brings us smoothly to our first guesthouse – the Vyn Guesthouse. We are blown away by the beautiful house and the warm welcome from Martina and Claus. Normally, a guesthouse looks better online than in reality, but here it is just the opposite!

Let’s let a few pictures do the talking! Today is all about arriving and then heading to the beach at Dunes for our first dinner in South Africa!

Since we are all a bit tired, we head back fairly early to our modest accommodation. However, we are (or rather a female member of our travel group is) a bit overwhelmed by the smart-controlled house and trigger the first false alarm, including alerting the security service – oh dear, how embarrassing!
