Phi Phi Islands in Thailand

Another snorkeling trip we booked through the tour operator took us to the Phi Phi Islands. These already belong to the Krabi region and are not just around the corner. So it was like this: pick-up at 5 a.m.! We had to get up earliest for this trip. I don't want to say that it wasn't worth it, but it was tough, especially when such a long day lies ahead.

Excursion!

So we were picked up from the hotel again and taken to the port in Phuket. This trip alone took 1.5 hours. From the port, we had to take the speedboat to the Phi Phi Islands for another 2 hours. Here too, we were given a small breakfast, this time in the form of a breakfast box, then a brief introduction to the day and the rules of snorkeling. Of course, the motion sickness pills were also not missing ;) Our German-speaking guide told us a lot about the fish we would see today, cracked some jokes and then left us alone for the rest of the journey. My tiredness overcame me and I actually managed to fall asleep during the wild ride on the speedboat.

'The Beach'

When Luke woke me up, we were already entering the famous Maya Bay, where the movie 'The Beach' with Leonardo DiCaprio was filmed. We were immediately told that we didn't need to look for the palm trees from the movie: they were flown in specifically. Interesting! When we arrived in the bay, there were already several boats on site. Despite the fact that we set off so early, it was already quite crowded. We followed the guide across the island, through the jungle to the other side. Because there was also something to see there. We spent the rest of our time on the island at the front of the beach, which was completely overcrowded. And as we heard, we were lucky. During the peak season, it is said to be even worse. Hard to imagine!

Time to swim

I was afraid that the rest of our trip would look like this, but fortunately this was the most crowded stop, otherwise everything went well. After we left the bay, we made a stop in another small bay, but without a beach. There we could jump from the boat, swim and do a little snorkeling. There weren't too many fish here yet. The noteworthy thing about it was the scenery we were in. Surrounded by high cliffs! Very spectacular!

On the way

After that, our tour took us past Monkey Beach, where we only briefly stopped with the boat to admire the monkeys. The beach was almost completely flooded due to the tide, so we didn't get off. Besides, there were still a lot of other boats here...

Time to snorkel!

After a while, a small island with a very chic-looking hotel on it came into sight. We stopped a few hundred meters in front of the island to snorkel here. Since the guide lured the fish with food beforehand, we found ourselves surrounded by hundreds of fish and couldn't see any water. We also hoped to see reef sharks, but unfortunately we did not spot any. However, we saw many other sea creatures such as clownfish, moray eels, and many others. All in all, it was a pretty beautiful spot.

Bamboo Island

After we had seen enough, the journey continued to Bamboo Island. A really beautiful island where we also had our lunch. There were also some boats here, but everything was wonderfully spread out on the dream island. We spent some time here (I didn't want to leave here either) until the way finally led us back to Phuket.

No goodbye forever!

After the visit to Bamboo Island, we made another snorkeling stop, then we had to say goodbye to the wonderful Phi Phi Islands and their beauty. Despite the fact that we had already visited the paradise-like Similan Islands, we were also thrilled with the Phi Phi Islands. The organization was great here too, not too many people on the boat, despite the fact that these islands are popular. At this point, a big shout out to Khao Lak Land Discovery! They are really doing their job well! We don't want to have visited the Phi Phi Islands for the last time either. We hope to see them again soon!
