Brisbane - the sunniest city in Australia

Publikuar: 06.04.2017

After being forced to go to Brisbane, which is not too bad for selling the car (in terms of timing), we started to think about whether we should still go to Cairns, as it is somehow part of seeing the Great Barrier Reef when on the Australian East Coast. However, our priority is currently the car, and we hope that there will still be time for it after the festival.

Due to the hurricane, the weather was quite ungrateful. It rained the whole time, so we were glad when it was only drizzling, just so we could go to the toilet. The weather couldn't restore the fun of sleeping in the car, which is why after one night we decided to find proper accommodation. Since our Airbnb host could only meet us in the evening at 6 o'clock, we went to a mall. After a short time, we were told that most shops were closing because the rainfall of a whole month was expected on that day. Luckily, the cinemas remained open, so we spent the time watching Beauty and the Beast. Since we were already in front of the house around 5 o'clock and still had to wait, we played Battleship and Yahtzee.
... On the last evening, I saw that our host had written before our arrival that he doesn't work as long due to the weather and that we could come earlier... Tom said he would have ripped my head off if I had seen and told him that on the first evening... luckily ;D

In Brisbane - or Brissie - there are several museums. We visited the Science Museum, which currently has an exhibition and explanation of the Hadron Collider.

However, the whole thing is quite complex and hard to understand, especially if there is almost no prior knowledge. We also visited the exhibition 'Science to touch'... which was similar to the one in Canberra.
The other museum was the GOMA (Gallery of Modern Arts), where there was some interesting art - like coats made of dried fish.

We also went to the Groovey Dessert Bar.

We had ice cream with cheesecake - which was really filling and more than enough for two. Fortunately, we each had our favorite, which avoided any disputes ;)
I also really want to go to the Chester Street Bakery, where there are many different cakes, cookies, ice cream flavors, and pies. That's the plan for tomorrow.

A few days ago, our door lock broke again. Tom went back to the Gold Coast to get it fixed, as a car that can't be locked is not easy to sell. After the wrong windshield was delivered once again, we finally got the right one on the third attempt! That was all quite annoying, so we are very happy when we finally sell the car :D

But we also had plenty of beautiful moments this week, the highlight was definitely the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, which is a great alternative to the Australian Zoo 🐨🐾🐍

3 Koalas :P

So, in terms of experiences, I can't fully judge, but definitely in terms of financial aspects and distance! The 'holding a koala' experience was already over, but it would have cost $18, so we saved the money 😉

So, there was only one picture with the koala, but we were allowed to pet it.

And honestly, we imagined the fur to be much softer. A kangaroo is comparatively much fluffier. You could also pet them here.

There was a fenced area where kangaroos, emus, and humans could move freely - the area was quite large. The kangaroos were lying lazily around and sleeping or occasionally hopping around. We approached cautiously - we do have some respect for the animals. In contrast, other children fearlessly approached the animals, which didn't bother the kangaroos at all. Some even petted the emus, which we didn't dare to approach.

On Sunday, we will go back to Byron Bay to work at the Blues Festival starting from Monday.
