Luxor West
After a pretty good night (except for the cold, we slept well), it was 3 degrees last night and there is no heating.
At the beginning of the month it snowed in Luxor (But it has nothing to do with climate change .... haha ...)
But it doesn't matter, we have to make the best of it. At 5 o'clock in the morning, several muezzins from the minarets can be heard and we sit up in bed. When you open the window, it smells like Bangkok, there is a lot of smog over Luxor. Breakfast at 7 o'clock. When you order coffee, you get a packet of Nescafe poured into the cup and a pot of hot water on the side. 😫 At 8 o'clock we drive to Luxor. First we visit the Karnak Temple and we are really almost the first ones, so it's nice and empty. It's really impressive how and what they built back then and especially how long it has been standing here.
The Karnak Temple was built by Ramses II 1200 years before Christ. After a guided tour, we can still walk through the temple complex and Bedouins keep trying to show us hidden treasures for a tip.
we run 7 times around a scarab beetle, because then a wish is supposed to come true 🤩
When you see something like this, you know why you booked this trip. Many fellow travelers have been here several times. At the moment, we can't imagine that yet, but let's wait and see what happens this week.
After that we end up in a papyrus shop .... of course a sales event with a brief explanation of how paper is made from the papyrus plant.
We continue to the Luxor Temple. It was built around 1500 BC by Amenhotep III.
In the last few years, the Sphinx Alley was built between the Karnak Temple and the Luxor Temple, which connects both temples across the city and required the demolition of several houses.
Then we go back to the ship and have lunch.
In the afternoon, the wind is not as strong, so we sit on the deck in the sun. Unfortunately, it smells terrible because all the boats have their diesel engines on. But at least we enjoy a little bit of ☀️☀️sun.
As I said, more photos will follow from Wednesday when we have Wi-Fi again.
