Cahuita - In the Caribbean

A small town with beautiful Caribbean beaches is our first destination. Of course, the flora and fauna of this place also pique our interest. In the evening, we arrived in the 3,000-person village by bus. And after seeing the first sloth hanging on the power lines, we truly felt like we had arrived in Costa Rica. The journey there was stunning, as for the first time since our arrival, we traveled from the city into the jungle. The abundance of greenery was truly impressive.
After arriving at our cabin, we went to a nearby restaurant, with a detour to the beach. The water was wonderfully warm and the anticipation for the next day grew. When we returned to the cabin, our door wouldn't open, so we had to remove a window with our hostess - who came from Switzerland - that same evening. Once the window was back in place, we were relieved to finally go to bed. The soundscape was phenomenal. Crickets, birds, and howler monkeys provided us with a spectacular concert. After moving to the next cabin, we immediately went to the beach, 'Playa Negra'. Accompanied by two dogs, we enjoyed the day until sunset on the beach. The next day, a visit to 'Cahuita National Park' was on the agenda. Here we could see monkeys, sloths, lizards, crabs, butterflies, and raccoons, as well as observe numerous bird species. Not to mention the immense variety of plant species that the jungle offers. Unfortunately, we have not yet seen iguanas, coatis, or rainbow-billed toucans. But that will surely be the case soon. On the approximately 8 km long walk through the national park, we passed 'Playa Blanca'. At this point, there was a coral reef that we wanted to visit. Unfortunately, we were only allowed to go into the water with a guide, as we found out too late. Nevertheless, it was a successful day, which we ended with a good meal, a nice conversation, and lots of wine.
