Unfortunately, our last day in San Diego is coming to an end and we are ready to leave tomorrow and continue our tour.
But the last day in this beautiful city was really something special. The sun was shining bright and we had beautiful weather all day.
Time for shorts and a shirt and off we went, but not without packing a swimsuit, because today we went to the most beautiful beach in America.
The morning routine is almost always the same now: shower, Starbucks, and self-made bagel on the go, and then we can start the day ahead.
The offering of fast food here is enormous and we have to admit that the first few days it was really hard to resist, but now we can't stand burgers, french fries, Subway, and co anymore, and we are grateful for every lettuce leaf.
Before heading to the cool water, we first visited the world-famous Balboa Park in the middle of the city. A more or less small green spot of earth, which suddenly made us forget that we were in the middle of a huge metropolis. Museum lovers were overwhelmed with cool exhibitions and historic buildings, which were perfect for a few photos.
At a big fountain with fountains, it was time for coffee and lemonade, and a few ducks were fed with the last remains of our cracker bag.
Refreshed and rested, we strolled back to our beloved Jeep, which we have come to appreciate, because otherwise you can easily be overlooked on the sometimes 8-lane highways. We haven't seen a single small car here yet, and the size of the American cars can be compared well with a motorhome.
We set off towards the sea and drove about 20 minutes across a huge bridge that goes right over San Diego Harbor, out into the oasis of San Diego citizens: Coronado Island.
Here, the most beautiful beach in America can be seen, and of course, we didn't want to miss that.
Here is also the famous Coronado Hotel, which is not really affordable for the average wallet, at nearly $1200 per night. But it was okay to look at it ;)
But the kilometer-long and wide white sandy beach tempted us even more, and of course, we didn't miss the opportunity to make ourselves comfortable in the hot sand with two cans of beer and sandwiches. But we didn't stay unnoticed for long, as a flock of seagulls targeted our avocado-chicken sandwiches and watched us closely.
A few meters away from us, they even stole a bag of provisions from two people.
They didn't have any fear and showed no mercy.
While we plunged into the slightly cold waters, we watched a seagull make itself comfortable on my towel, hoping to find something.
But unfortunately, it made itself a bit too comfortable and used my towel as a toilet, but they say it brings good luck! J We should have immediately driven back to Vegas to hit the jackpot at the casino J but that would have been a bit too far.
After a few relaxing hours at the beach, we made our way back to the city, because we wanted to make the most of our last evening. And when you're near Mexico, you shouldn't miss out on the Mexican cuisine.
And where could you end the evening better than in the Gaslamp Quarter, where our 3-day trip in San Diego started?!
Dressed in fresh clothes, we walked into the city this time, because for the last night we had booked a cheap hotel in the middle of the city to be closer to the action. It was certainly a "slight" difference to our accommodation in La Jolla with our 5m wide bed, but it was just right for just staying overnight.
We had chosen a suitable Mexican restaurant with the help of Yelp beforehand and made our way there. 20 minutes later, we stood in front of the restaurant's gates, and a quick look to the left didn't bode well: MAC Cosmetics!!! I had to take a quick look, of course, and came out with a new brush. Now we were ready to go: with a Mac brush in our luggage, nothing could go wrong. We ordered chicken and veggie tacos and stuffed ourselves with free nachos at the buffet, including 300 different dips. J
Full and with a few burns in our mouths caused by chili, we made our way back to the hotel, but not without exploring a few stores.
The suitcases are packed by now and we are ready for the next journey.
Because tomorrow we're heading to the City of Angels.
Off to Los Angeles and Santa Monica!!!
