Santa Cruz - Boat trip to Plaza Island

Publikuar: 14.06.2019

Our guide Martin picked us up early in the morning at the hotel. We drove to other hotels by bus and until the last hotel we were a group of 12. We were taken to the pier and from there the tour started. The first stop was already after a 20-minute drive. There was a snorkeling session for 60 minutes. Luckily, I had packed my shorty, as the water is quite fresh in some places. Only 5 people jumped into the sea and the rest stayed on the boat. At the beginning, we saw two large rays sleeping on the seabed. Then I felt a sting on my arms and legs. The others in the group also felt it. There were many small jellyfish in the water. It was very uncomfortable for a while. Luckily, they disappeared again.

In a lagoon, you could observe large parrotfish and then a large shark shot by me and a seal swam right next to it.

The following thoughts went through my mind:

  1. - Shark wants to eat the seal -, but couldn't because the seal swam sideways.

  2. - Shark wants to eat me now -, because I'm wearing a dark grey shorty with black fins -

  3. DO NOT PANIC

What can I say, the shark calmly disappeared into the sea, but the seal was crazy about our group. Especially about Daniela. Since she can hold her breath for a long time, she kept diving with it and it swam around her. It looked really cool. It almost kissed her diving mask. Yes, that was another great experience! The people who stayed on the boat were naturally sad. They could watch it from the boat, but some were annoyed that they didn't jump into the water. On the boat, I could see for the first time what traces the small jellyfish had left on me. There were red bumps everywhere. But it didn't have any other effects (burning, itching, etc.).

We continued to the "Plaza" island. On this island, the iguanas were not black, but yellow. I liked them much better than the black ones. At a steep coast, we could see the nests of various bird species up close and some young animals were hopping around on the path. They were still covered in down, you could cuddle them. Another animal lived here: the seal, and there were several colonies on the cliffs. Especially the babies were adorable. After an hour-long walk on the island, we went back to the boat.

Lunch was already waiting for us and then we went back to the pier. It was a great tour, with beautiful experiences and lots of information.

What can I say, UNFORTUNATELY we will leave the Galapagos Islands tomorrow. We are going back to the mainland of Ecuador. QUESTION!!! CAN SOMEONE BRING US LITTLEFOOT HERE? We would love to stay here ;-)!

In this sense, sunny greetings Anke & Daniela
