Finnish lake plateau

Publikuar: 25.07.2016

And again, 2 days have passed in the blink of an eye. During a part of it, we proved to ourselves that we are capable of surviving in the wilderness. For example, on Saturday evening, we had self-picked blueberries for dessert. Sunday started later than usual as we had a sleep marathon to catch up on missed sleep. Since there wasn't much else to do with the rest of the day, we did nothing for the first time and spent it reading, in the hammock, or anywhere else by the lake. Unfortunately, we also encountered the first, and hopefully the last, problem with our car. After the trunk couldn't be locked before the trip, it can now no longer be opened. The Finnish language also presents us with comprehension problems with its many strange umlauts. In Estonia, we at least understood words like 'Politsei' or 'Gümnasiom', even if the spelling more closely resembles that of a second-grader. Here in Finland, however, the word for high school is 'oppokoulu', which even we high school graduates would never have thought of.

Today, we covered a good distance towards the north again. We enjoyed a sunny break by a lake, but an hour later, we were once again forced to take a break as it seemed like the world was collapsing on top of us. It rained, stormed, and thundered heavily. We also realized where the revenue from the high alcohol taxes goes, and that is into speed cameras. Honestly, every 20 km there is a speed camera. Fortunately, all of them have been spotted in time by our eagle eyes. So we drove through the most beautiful route so far, through the Finnish lake plateau, where the long-awaited moose, which is constantly warned about, has not yet appeared, and landed back at the Baltic Sea early in the evening, where we are camping just 10 meters away. To our dismay, we currently wish for the mosquitoes in Kohlberg to come back, as the countless killer mosquitoes at our last two locations were so annoying. However, that is currently the only downside. Definitely a plus and success can be noted that Google Maps now chooses not to go back as the fastest route to Hennef, but the part that we still have to cover! Another highlight is definitely the evening swim in the Baltic Sea (as seen in the picture). We promise that there will be more highlights to come!
