Our first weekend in New Zealand was very successful.
On Saturday, we planned to explore the Dunedin Peninsula (Otago Peninsula).
We took the bus from the city to Portobello, a very small but cute town. In Portobello, we had about 2 hours to spare before the next bus to the Albatross Center arrived.
During this time, we explored the area, went hiking, and had a traditional seafood basket, highly recommended.
Then we continued by bus towards the Albatross Center. We had to walk a bit from the last bus stop until we reached the Albatross Center. But the walk was definitely worth it.
Along the way, we made many stops to take photos and the view was simply magnificent.
We saw many albatrosses on the way, but at the Albatross Center, the albatrosses were everywhere. As we walked down towards the beach, we caught the perfect moment to see a seal lion coming out of the water and several others resting on rocks. Unfortunately, we couldn't see the yellow-eyed penguins at this time of the year.
After spending almost the whole day at the Albatross Center and even getting pooped on by an albatross, we headed back towards the bus stop. Since the buses don't come often during the day, you should check the timetable beforehand.
And so, we had a great first trip in New Zealand, and we were lucky with the weather too.
On Sunday, the weather was not so good. After breakfast, we went to St. Clair Beach to explore everything there. We were both very impressed by the Hot Salt Water Pool, which is right by the sea.
We also loved the beach, but it was too cold to sunbathe or go for a swim.
At St. Clair Beach, there are many restaurants with different options for food, but no shops, tourist stores, or the like.
Once it gets warmer, we definitely want to use the Hot Salt Water Pool and maybe even go swimming in the sea.
