Today is our first Limb camp. The 45-minute drive through Nouakchott to the camp alone is a deep insight.
We are given a very warm welcome; our contact person even speaks German. There are already 12 pre-registrations; Most of them have been waiting since 7 a.m. There are 8 of us at the camp and after a short introduction we started working straight away.
For some of us it is our first camp; The day is correspondingly exciting for us as a group. The gratitude of the local people can be felt very quickly; some are more open-minded, some seem a bit ashamed. Either way, we can call the day a great success and were invited again on site by our contact person. The furthest travelers even came from 500km away.
While everything in our premises is still relatively civilized, you can immediately feel the “real” life of Nouakchott when you walk out. There is a lot of rubbish everywhere, there are a few children gathered outside who are curious, open-minded but also super cheeky. In the end, they all have the small hope of getting something from us.
