11. Banff National Park

Our new sleeping place for exploring Banff National Park was Protection Mountain Campground. It was actually not difficult to get a spot here because there is a grizzly bear mom with her cubs living in the area and camping is not allowed.

The next morning, I went up to Lake Louise very early. I wanted to park close to the lake, so I was at the lake by 6 a.m., and the first parking lot was already full, so I parked in the second one. At this time, I was able to take a picture of the lake without people in the way.

I then started hiking to the Plain of the Six Glaciers. The trail is beautiful and you can almost always see the lake in the valley, as well as the glaciers you are walking towards.

Once you reach the top, you have a spectacular view of several glaciers, peaks, and the lake in the valley.

After visiting the two tea houses - small huts with simple food and drinks in the mountains - I went back down to the lake to unpack my kayak.

Because of the crowd, I had to maneuver through with my kayak on my head to paddle on the lake for about 1.5 hours. I don't even want to know how many pictures I am in now.

For the next day, we planned another hike together: up to Rockbound Lake, which is right behind Castle Mountain. The hike is quite pleasant, even though the trail is very wide and well-maintained (no climbing over rocks or trees). Once we reached the top, we realized that thousands of mosquitoes call this lake their home. So we had to be careful not to get bitten and didn't stay at the lake for long. The lake was quite different, surrounded by rocky mountains on three sides and an open meadow with trees.

Since our paths were separating again from now on, it was time to say goodbye to Tomas and Mika - at least for now.
