After arriving in Beijing, we visit Tiantan Park and walk to Tian'anmen Square. We first have to get used to the 35 degree heat before we set off on our bikes.
The park is full of Chinese tourists and we are surprised by the crowds. We later learn that the main holiday season has started that week, which explains the crowds.
There are also a lot of people milling around Tian'anmen Square and there are various police checkpoints. Unfortunately, the entrances to the square are blocked off. There is an explanation for this too: Due to a state visit, the square is closed to the public today. It's a shame, so we'll take a look at the entrance to the Forbidden City at a later date.
