During today's stage, I had a real sense of home. The E4 is truly diverse and today it reminded me especially of the Black Forest. Spruce, fir trees, moss, wide forest paths, etc. At one point, I thought I would find the Triberg Waterfalls around every turn.
From Vrytina, we headed up to 1650 meters this morning. We climbed up and down for a good 10 km, mostly uphill. Towards the end, it felt almost vertical. Wow, what a hike. Then we descended back down just as much. At least 2.5 hours straight downhill. Most of it on asphalt, which I have come to appreciate, but can be really tough in the long run.
The feeling of being in the Black Forest was of course beautiful. Otherwise, it was a rather uneventful stage. After the steep climb, motivation, all dopamine and serotonin were exhausted. Even the abandoned ski resort that we passed through hardly impressed us.
We're staying in Kapsia tonight. A tiny village that clearly has seen better days. Except for the bakery, which could make half of Athens happy with its selection.
There is even internet here.
So, I don't really have time to write. Finally, back to YouTube.
