Tag 115: Communism and homemade knives

Today we woke up early again because we wanted to visit the mausoleum of former President Ho Chi Minh. However, when we arrived at the mausoleum, we found out that unlike all the travel guides and websites, visiting the interior is not possible. So we visited his old houses, offices, and saw his old cars. Afterwards, we spent two hours at the corresponding museum. From the museum, we took a taxi to a small district of Hanoi, which is about a 30-minute drive away. There we had the traditional noodle soup for the last time, which had accompanied us throughout Vietnam, and then walked to a knife maker. There, within four hours, we learned how the kitchen knives used throughout the country are made. We were allowed to forge, grind, and carve the handle ourselves. We had a lot of fun and also learned some craftsmanship. The best part, however, was that we had made a super cool souvenir ourselves, which we can use at home as well.

In the evening, we went to the same Indian restaurant as before the last Germany match. However, as we had to realize, this 'tradition' unfortunately did not bring any luck. After the game against Korea, we were amusedly looked at by Mexicans and Korean fans at the sports bar where we watched the game. Only the Swedish fans had a little pity on us. We made sure to get home quickly! So that was our last evening in Vietnam...
