My day started early today at 03:30 AM😴. Everything went smoothly at the airport, but unfortunately, the flight had to wait for 1 hour due to bad weather conditions in Porto.
I arrived in Porto around 09:15 local time. After picking up my backpack from the baggage claim, I took the metro to the city center of Porto.
As soon as I stepped outside, I was immediately captivated by the architecture and charm of this city.
After dropping off my luggage at the hostel, I set out for sightseeing. Once I reached the river, I sat down briefly by the water to take it all in. Apparently, I was being observed 😁 - see the picture with the postcard.
Next, I made my way back up, and after what felt like 500 steps, I finally spotted the beginning of the bridge. From the bridge, there’s a great view of Porto and the river.
Afterwards, I walked a bit further and stumbled upon the church from which I will start the Camino tomorrow morning. There, I started a conversation with Greg, an older American who just returned from his Camino and is spending a few more days in Porto. We talked for a while, he shared his experiences, and gave me a few tips. Later, we met Julie from England, who has traveled extensively around the world but is also starting her first Camino tomorrow. Together, we went to the Bolhão market on Greg's recommendation to grab something to eat. After a panini and a fruit cup, I was feeling revitalized.
After the market, we parted ways again. However, it’s quite possible that Julie and I will cross paths again since we have the same goal 🙂
I’m currently lying in my hostel bed and doing a little 'Portuguese' siesta before heading back into the city tonight.
I've only been here for 6 hours but have already experienced so much - I’m curious to see what’s next 😁
