Galapagos III - Expedition trip ahead

Rakabudiswa: 26.02.2024

So the time had come. The next day we had breakfast and then our taxi would take us to the ferry. A short ride later we got on the bus and were at the airport. We were on time, we thought, but actually too early. So we had to wait a little impatiently until we were allowed to get on a bus again. This time to another pier from which our ship could already be seen. We couldn't imagine how this ship would be our home for the next week. We hadn't been in one place for so many days since Costa Rica and we were happy to be able to unpack our bags. A smaller rubber boat took us from the pier to the ship and we had to board through a large hatch. Then we were shown the rooms and our mood changed suddenly. The rooms were far away from each other and not connected by a door, which was important to me. I have to admit here that I am afraid of ships, of the sea and of sharks and the idea that János got lost in the ship at night and that I could be separated from part of my family in a Titanic accident freaked me out. Thankfully the crew was very understanding and they looked for a solution for us. So we even got better rooms, connected. The only catch was that we had to change rooms after 4 days. But we were used to that.

What we experienced on and with the ship was really great, snorkeling every day and a walk on one of the islands, sometimes even a short boat ride. Delicious food, nice crew, lots of information. We felt like we were on a study trip. We really enjoyed it. And even though I fell out of bed because of the shock on the first night, I also got used to the many noises and also a bit of the waves. We also visited the bridge and learned that it was a former German ship. This fact didn't calm my fears, but at least the ship had survived a lot and the man who showed us everything was very calm and nice. So he gained my trust that he would know what he was doing and even when we saw a recently stranded ship on a rainy day, I didn't feel very worried.

And even though I was really looking forward to getting back on solid ground, we were all sad when we had to disembark, it was really something very special. I hope we will never completely forget this experience!
